Method

Engagement phases.

First conversation. One hour with a senior associate, at no charge. The firm states where the work fits its practices and whether it can accept it; referrals are given where it cannot.
Written frame. Two pages: the decision to be made, constraints, options and the measure of success. The client approves the frame before pricing.
Fixed proposal. Scope, named associates, timeline and fee against the approved frame. Fixed where the work is defined; staged where discovery is part of the work. No time-and-materials billing.
Evidence. Estate review: architecture, contracts, costs, controls and interviews with the people who operate the systems. Vendor claims are tested against client requirements, not demonstration scripts.
Recommendation. One recommended option with alternatives considered, assumptions, and the conditions that would change the answer. Written to be usable without the firm present.
Delivery or assurance. Optional: the same associate leads delivery, or assures another provider's work, under the engagement terms.
Handover. Decision records, architecture documentation and working papers are delivered to the client. There is no dependency on the firm after closure.

Scope changes

Material scope changes stop the engagement, re-frame and re-price with client approval. Retrospective billing is not used.

Associate continuity

The named associate leads the engagement from scoping to sign-off. One substitution has occurred in the firm's history; it was approved by the client in advance.

Client property

All deliverables, working papers and decision records are the client's property on payment of the agreed fee.

Confidentiality

Client identities are not disclosed. Engagement pages on this site are published with client identities anonymised and with client approval.

The Method
